Ghent (City)

Ghent, the province capital of East Flanders, accommodates more than 21,000 people with Turkish roots, equalling more than 8 per cent of the total population. The largest part of this Turkish population has origins in the province of Afyon (in particular the town Emirdağ). The adjacent provinces in the north and east of Afyon (Konya, Eskişehir and Ankara) are also well represented. Besides this population originating in West and Central Anatolia, there is a significant presence from the eastern Anatolian province of Elazığ, from the town Posof in the extreme Northeastern province of Ardahan, and from Istanbul (mainly concerning former immigrants from the Balkans).
